Ever since the inception of the European Federation of Liberian Associations, EFLA https://europeanliberians.com/home/ , the Liberian Swedish Association, LSA has continue to be a committed and supportive member of the Federation even during the covid-19 pandemic. This unwavering support was seen quite recently when a delegation from the LSA community traveled to Antwerpen, Belgium to participate and support EFLA's events.
Like most renowned organizations, EFLA usually host Annual General Assembly for Executive Officers - leaders of EFLA and heads of Liberian Associations across Europe to meet and discuss issues that are relevant to the progress and growth of the Federation, and in some cases, to elect new officers to run the affairs of the Federation. In addition, the Federation sometimes host events on a yearly basis to commemorate Liberia's major holidays like the July 26th Independence Day in order to bring Liberians together under the same proximity to celebrate and honor Liberia.
However, since the emergence of the covid-19 pandemic and its regulations and restrictions, it has been difficult for the Federation to host such significant events since 2019. Thankfully, with the emergence of the covid-19 pandemic vaccine, and things now starting to gradually return to normal, the Federation was able to once again host its Annual General Assembly (AGA) on Friday, July 30th, and commemorates Liberia’s Independence Day on Saturday July 31st, 2021 in Antwerpen, Belgium.
The President of LSA, Mr. David Ford alongside some prominent members of the LSA community including Mr. Abraham Sandy, Chairman Emeritus of the LSA Malmö Chapter, and Mrs. Jele Chea, former Financial Secretary of LSA flew from Sweden to Belgium to represent the LSA at the abovementioned events. Mr. Francis Mensah, ELFA's current Secretary General also attended the events from Sweden to perform his duties to EFLA and to support the LSA.
During the AGA EFLA's Executive Leaders re-elected the following persons: Mr. Mayango Clarance Arku as President, Mrs. Haja Sesay as Vice President, Mr. Francis Mensah as Secretary General, and Dr. Liana Ursa as Financial Secretary to run the affairs of EFLA for the next two years. The Executive Leaders also discussed issues intended to help improve and expend EFLA's operations amongst Liberian Associations and Communities across Europe.
With regards to the July 26th celebration, an outdoor event was held at the Park Noord in Antwerp to commemorate Liberia's 174th Independence Day. Several Liberians showed up from various European countries to celebrate the Independence of their motherland, Liberia.
The LSA leadership and community members extends thanks and appreciation to the leadership of EFLA and the leadership and members of the United Liberian Association of Belgium (ULAB) for hosting such wonderful events.
